Hongkong, 15th June, 1901.
In reply to your letter of 11th instant,
I am directed to inform you that His Excellency the Governor regrets that he is unable to comply with the request of the Hongkong and Whampoa Dock Company to put up certain indicated land at public auction until he receives a reply to the despatch addressed to the Secretary of State for the Colonies on 22nd April, 1901.
It is to be observed that the enclosure in my letter No. 1352 of the 8th instant, was a copy of a letter from Admiral Seymour who merely expressed his opinion which the Lords of the Admiralty may not adopt.
